Prof John Underwood

A specialist in health communication who has advised many NHS organisations, and a former TV reporter and presenter with the BBC, ITV and Channel Four. He held an honorary chair in the School of Social and Political Sciences at Glasgow University between 2006 and 2016 and is now a visiting professor at Buckinghamshire New University. A former Chair of the health charity Alcohol Change UK, he is an Executive Director at the Cardiff-based Freshwater consultancy, and was a member of the NHS England Joint Advisory Group on Communications and Engagement and of the former Mayor of London’s Health Commission Engagement Advisory Group. His journalism and PR team awards include the Institute of Public Relations “Certificate of Excellence”, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Excellence Award for Best Integrated Health Campaign and the Best In-House Consultancy Collaboration award at the Public Affairs Awards. He is the Chair of the JCCP’s Marketing and Communication Committee.
