Introduction: Why Establish The JCCP?

The JCCP has been established to assist members of the public who are seeking/considering or undergoing non-surgical and hair restoration surgery treatments (Injections, Fillers, Lasers, Peels and Hair Restoration Surgery) with advice on patient safety matters and how to gain access to registers of approved practitioners.

About the JCCP

The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP), was formally launched in February 2018 as a ‘self-regulating’ body for the non-surgical aesthetics and hair restoration sector in the United Kingdom and is a registered UK Charity.

The JCCP’s registers

Practitioner Register (PSA accredited)The JCCP operates a practitioner register which is formally accredited by the Professional Standards Authority as part of its Accredited Register Programme.
Education and Training RegisterThe JCCP also operates a non-PSA accredited register for Approved Education and Training Providers and Qualifications.

Licensing in England

It should be noted that the UK Government are currently designing a new scheme of licensing for implementation in England for the non-surgical cosmetic sector. The JCCP is working closely with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and with other relevant regulatory agencies to inform and support the design of new standards that may be introduced within the context of the proposed licensing scheme. The JCCP will subsequently review and amend its criteria, standards and entry conditions to permit entry to both its Practitioner and Education and Training Registers to align with Government mandated requirements once these are determined.

Professional Standards Authority

The treatments the JCCP covers

JCCP has been established to deal with the many problems associated with risks attached to non-surgical anti-aging treatments and hair restoration surgery sought by the general public.

Key Problems

Lack of regulation of practitioners
Lack of independent information and advice for the public and practitioners
Misrepresentation of the benefits of treatment
Sub-standard training of practitioners
Lack of accountability if things go wrong
Implementation of unwarranted variations in core treatment standards

How the JCCP addresses these problems

The JCCP has been established to deal with these issues by raising awareness amongst the public of the risks involved when undergoing treatments and by registering practitioners and approved education/training providers.

The JCCP operates a Professional Standards Authority, Accredited Practitioner Register. To find out more about how our Practitioner Register functions, see the guide below.
